Kalyani Nagar is a cosmopolitan, predominantly residential neighbourhood in eastern Pune, India, with a population of about 35,000 residents. With its dense tree cover, Kalyani Nagar has a flourishing bird and insect population, and a picturesque Joggers Park. To its south is the Mula-Mutha River, along which is the Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. To its north is the Pune-Ahmednagar Road (Nagar Road). Named after Neelkanth Kalyani, founder of Bharat Forge, Kalyani Nagar has grown after the HH Aga Khan Bridge was built across the Mula-Mutha river. It is only 5 km from Pune Junction railway station and less than 2 km from Pune Airport. The Pune Metro also passes through Kalyani Nagar, with a metro station on East Avenue (this is work in progress). The Aga Khan Palace, a historical landmark of national importance, where Mahatma Gandhi was imprisoned during the Quit India movement, is also in the neighbourhood.
